Why save the world, when you can rule it?
Look on the bright side: Even if you're public services are being sustained by foreign subsidy, at least your keeping f22 and stryker going in your military 
The US has a lot of extremes, they have the smartest and dumbest people in the world, the richest and the poorest people in the world, advanced development of weapons to kill and maim people as well as medical equipment and techniques to heal and help injured people and probably the most agressive foreign policy as well as the world leader when it comes to sending aid abroad. The trillions spent on war only line the pockets of the already rich elite (politicians and corporate heads) and do nothing to help the average american, I have to say that the UK is heading the same way and our hospitals are penniless yet we plan to spend £20 billion on Trident nuclear submarines, yeah those will really deter a small terrorist cell belonging to no nation and ready to blow themselves up I mean is it worth the US spending money ($211million so far) on things like this:

Yeah, I was going with you for a sec. We do have extremes...incredible extremes compared to the modern industrialized world. But the "poorest people in the word" we do not have. And I'm not being defensive with that comment; I'm just stating facts.
We have poverty. We have dire poverty...and I've been unfortunate to witness it first hand as an adult who was never at risk to fall in its gravity. But come on, let's be real here. I don't thin that's an insult to the US...I thin it's an insult to the billions of people who could casually rattle of daily obstacles that nobody born here could even comprehend.
Besides that, yes, this current corporatist system is beyond perverted and corrupt. Right Wingers claim that Socialism is threatening our national identity and philosophy and Lefties claim that the "Free Market" and "deregulation" has run amok and turned us into a modern caste system. Meanwhile both "parties" have both merged with and conspired with something that can only be compared to a pre-Potsdam Zaibatsu. The truth fucking sucks and the truth is the last thing you'll hear from either "party".
Sorry I should've clarified I meant in the western world. Nothing can describe what poor people go through in 3rd world countries, that's a whole different level of suffering to what we consider poor in the west.
Ah, OK, man. I just wanted to make sure. You know, every now and then there's these new accepted factoids that might have a dubious source. So I was just chiming in just in case there's some new mind-blowing accepted model that might not actually be so accurate.
You know, a lot of us were fed the idea that the poor Chinese were eating babies just a few short years ago. I'm sure somewhere on the globe there's a story about New Orleans FEMA camps that survive by consuming jerky made from bow-legged Cajuns who suck at climbing fences.
That's at least two years away from being remotely true.

Although, you can look at it from the American side of things. By that I mean the size of the country and the money they have. Yet they are getting foreign help. That country has the potential to have the best education and health system in the world due to the money they have. But they don't. Thanks to those in power. Not saying they are inferior those two systems, just that they could be better than they are and the politicians don't seem to be doing much to rectify this. Kind of the same here in the UK they could do a whole lot more than they are. All they are doing just now is cutting back on things that have been cut back on already. The NHS included.

And that's the crux of it. Politicians aren't don't jack, the money that is out there is tied up in red tape and as a result people are suffering.
What really pisses me off is we've bailed out CEOs who make more money in 1 year than most of these people will see in a lifetime.
We also bailed out banks who are a large part of the problem.
We give out welfare and food stamps to people who ARE NOT EVEN CITIZENS OR LEGAL RESIDENTS of our country.
Oh yea, and lets not even start about the last presidential campaign that brought in enough money that could have been put to a lot better use during the start of the economic diaster...
Everything they do wrong in your country. They more or less do wrong here in the UK as well. That includes all of the above.
The bankers were at fault for much of this economic crisis but unfortunately they hold too many peoples lives in their hands, if the UK or USA govts had let the banks crash and burn as they deserved to then too many innocent people would've lost their savings and their homes etc so they had to be bailed out to save other people rather than their own skin. What annoys me is some banks here were still giving massive bonuses to staff and when the govt queried this they simply threatened to relocate abroad, blackmailing bastards
Many of the bank heads that retired are still on huge pensions which adds up to millions each year whilst 1000s face losing their jobs as a result of what these banks did and I also notice how the media seems to have completely laid off the bankers, something aint right there.

What I never figured out is why nations, who have armies, intelligence agencies and special forces, don't one day just get tired, send 4 members of a SOG team to visit the lead baner at home and then redress the balance.
As for the reason the media lays off the bankers; you're thinking of British media you Brit and British media is primarily controlled by the Tories, who went to school with the bankers and work for the bankers interests, no the interests of the nation.
